releases

We wish to say THANK YOU!
The people have spoken! The readers of the Milford Times, South Lyon
Herald, Northfield Record, and Novi News have voted us the winner of the
2011 People's Choice Award for Best Childcare.

“The teachers at Building Blocks Preschool are Project Learning Tree Trained,  they are
natural authentic learners themselves and love the outdoors.  Some children are a little
squeamish when they see a snake or a bug, but most of the kids are right on them,
children are natural explorers and when they see their friends excited, the wonderment is
contagious” said Suzanne Gabli, Executive Director.

Blending classroom and the environment is what helped Building Blocks Preschool to be,
one of the state’s first private nature-based preschool.

At Building Blocks Preschool our teachers observe, document and interpret children's
thinking and learning to guide and support and experiences.  “We are excited that our
nature preschool program runs year around.  There is so much to learn with Michigan's
four seasons.  Our children become observers, noticing the big changes and the small
ones".  The mission of Building Blocks Preschool is to "build a foundation for a love for
learning" .  With our inquire based-emergent curriculum we incorporate outdoor play,
nature exploration, and environmental practices, such as recycling and conservation.
Creating relationships with teachers, classmates and our environment gives our children a
deep respect for each other and the outdoors.

The fundamental values are based on an image of children as curious, competent, and
capable of co-constructing knowledge. From the moment of birth, children are engaged in
a search for the meaning of life, seeking to understand the world that surrounds them and
the relationships that they form and develop with others in their world.  If we were talking
to you on your first day here we would say, "Welcome to planet Earth. There is nothing
that you cannot be or do or have. And your work here—your lifetime career—is to seek
joy.

Carlina Rinaldi, President of Reggio Children, writes,

“In this sense, among the first questions we should ask ourselves as teachers and
educators are these: How can we help children find the meaning of what they do, what
they encounter, what they experience? And how can we do this for ourselves? These are
questions of meaning and the search for meaning (Why? How? What?).”

These are the fundamentals that we practice, every day with our children and teaching
staff.  This is what truly makes a difference in your child's learning experience with our
school.

Nothing with out JOY!
